Transforming lives

Children and young people who are suffering from ill health, disease or malnutrition will be less likely to enjoy and achieve and may have difficulty in making positive contributions to their schools, local communities and wider society.
Every Child Matters: Change for children in health services

Engagement in the ats and creative opportunities transforms the way children and young people learn and explore the world around them. It can change the way children and young people see themselves.
Children, young people and the arts, Arts Council England

Giving young people the best chance at lifelong health and happiness is a priority for everyone. The Every Child Matters agenda means that the collaborative push to achieve this has never been greater.

Partners across the region are working together to improve the lives of children and young people through early years and parent support activity, extended school provision, children’s centres and more positive activities for young people in the community.

Children and young people in disadvantaged areas are a particular priority, as are those with mental and emotional health concerns, those in care and those who are carers themselves.

The contribution that arts and creativity make to children and young people begins soon after we are born and continues through to young adulthood. It can, ultimately help prepare young adults to live a healthy, independent life.

Creativity and a healthy imagination, the confidence to use it and the communication skills to express it, provides a fundamental basis for essential life skills – for problem solving, innovation, inventiveness, resourcefulness and resilience as well as a persons ability to empathize with others and develop meaningful social skills.

In Yorkshire and The Humber we have a range of pioneering creative approaches tackling emotional literacy, physical health and movement development, health promotion, suicide prevention, food and nutrition, chronic illness and mental health and well-being.
